Seventh Grade ‘Necks Take Down the Lions

By Karson Lott The Roughnecks won their final district  game last night, 22-12, against the New Boston Lions. Dyllon Hiest lead the way for the ‘Necks with two touchdowns (55 and one yard) and two 2 point conversions.  Dalton Morgan contributed one touchdown (23 yards.) Roughnecks Come Up Short Against the Bulldogs

By Karson Lott The Roughnecks were edged out by the Jefferson Bulldogs 12-8 last Thursday, bringing their season record to 5-3, and their district record to 2-2. Dalton Morgan had a 19 yard touchdown and a two point conversion. Offensive standouts for the ‘Necks included, Dalton Morgan and Noah Carter. Defensive Standout was Dalton Morgan. According to Coach Ron Boyett the ‘Necks missed several opportunities to secure the win. “We had our opportunities to win but we turned the ball over twice on downs,” Boyett said.  “We just didn’t execute well enough at times and it cost us in the end.  Defensively, we allowed one big pass play in the first half for a score, and then allowed them to pound us on the ground during their go ahead drive in the second half.” The Roughnecks will host the final district game against the New Boston Lions on Thursday at 4:30....

Eighth Grade ‘Necks Defeat the Bulldogs

By Karson Lott   The Roughnecks beat the Jefferson Bulldogs 38-12 last Thursday night in a key district contest. Sam Dusek scored twice with 40 and 50 yard touchdowns and it was the first two times Dusek touched the ball. Gavin Bzdil had three touchdowns for the night, with runs of 15, 10, and 5 yards respectively. Cayson Siegley made two big receptions in the win. One catch was made at the back of the end zone for a two point conversion. The catch of the night was a reception Siegley made on the sideline keeping his feet inbounds for a completion at the five yard line. “The boys played their best game of the year that night,” Coach Steve Gillispie said. “Even towards the end of the season, we are still continuing to improve. I hope they play even better this week in their game against New Boston.” The Roughnecks will host their final district game on Thursday against the Lions at 5:30....

Eighth Grade Roughnecks Suffer 40-8 Loss to Redwater

By Karson Lott  The  eight grade Roughnecks suffered a 40-8 loss to the Dragons last night in Redwater. “The boys fought hard in the second half to overcome a 32-0 deficit,” Coach Steve Gillispie said. “The defense worked hard in the second half and held the Dragons to only one touchdown.” Offensively for the ‘Necks, Sam Dusek scored the lone touchdown of the night with time expiring on the last snap of the ballgame. By Karson Lott The Roughnecks pulled out a district win against the Redwater Dragons by a score of 22-12, bringing their season record to 5-2, and their district record to 2-1. Dyllon Heist lead the way with 2 rushing touchdowns (55 and 1 yards) and two 2 point conversions. Dalton Morgan contributed one rushing touchdown (23 yards) for the ‘Necks. “This was a good road win from the perspective of having to overcome several penalties that went against us as well as playing better against an offensive scheme that has given us problem,” Coach Ron Boyett. Offensive Standouts include Running Back Dyllon Heist, Running Back Dalton Morgan, Slot Receiver Noah Carter, Offensive Line (Blake Robertson, Dylan Jones, Gavyn Jones, Caden Tyner, Caleb Scott.) “We continue to play more physical and our tackling continues to get better,” Boyett said.  “Offensively, we sputtered at times but put together a couple of good drives in the first half.  We protected the ball and blocked well for the most part against a physical team.” Defensive Standouts: Inside Linebackers Dyllon Heist and Dalton Morgan, Defensive Tackle Dylon Jones, Defensive Ends Caden Tyner and Blake Robertson.
