‘Germbusters’ Committee Fights Back

Story by Alexis Henson Tis the season for illness and the ‘Germbusters’ committee is fighting back.  ‘Germbusters’ committee members are Rilee Bowden, Davis Toliver, Brady Greenwood, Abby Allen, Kinsey Watkins, Karley Owens and Alexis Henson. Sponsor is Karyn Jones. Students volunteer every Tuesday during enrichment to clean up the school in zones.  The school is divided into zones and students on the committee group together and clean the individual zones. Members also make weekly announcements and give out prizes to people who get their names drawn in the weekly drawing. This project came about after school was closed for two days last school year because attendance levels were so low due to the flu and pneumonia. Student Council decided to clean up the school. Last school year we only cleaned one time after we came back from break and we needed to clean more. Committee members spoke in front of the funding board to secure the grant needed to move forward. “I spoke in front of the board and asked for funding, Henson said. The committee was awarded $500 for supplies and we have used that money for cleaning supplies such as wipes, sprays, gloves, and even hand sanitizer. Vegetarian dishes gaining popularity at the holiday table

Contributed by Alexis Henson  Thanksgiving, some peoples favorite time of the year. I mean it’s a holiday celebrating food, who wouldn’t like it? You have so many options to eat, unless of course, you are vegetarian. You’re stuck eating bread and maybe some macaroni. Talk about boring. The vegetarian option is where you don’t eat any meat, fish, or gelatin products. Many people choose this option because they are against the meat industry and how they treat the animals. Whether you are vegetarian or know someone who is, here are three Thanksgiving recipes that are good for everyone to eat. Smoked Chile Scalloped Sweet Potatoes: This recipe is easy, has four ingredients, and only takes four simple steps. Ingredients: 2 cups heavy cream 1 heaping tablespoon chipotle pepper puree 3 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced 1/8-inch thick Salt and freshly ground black pepper Extra supplies: A medium bowl A whisk A 9×9 casserole dish What to do: First, you are going to want to preheat your oven to 375 degrees  Next, in a medium bowl, you are going to whisk together cream and chipotle puree until smooth.
