The Gladewater Lady Bears defeated the White Oak Ladynecks 40-10 Monday evening in a district contest.

Despite a slow start and a physical matchup between the two teams, the Ladynecks pushed through the game and made adjustments. Graycen Sipes lead the way for White Oak with four points. Elyse Paiz, Raylee Gajewsky and Charity Covington scored two points apiece. scored two points.

“We played hard, but we didn’t have a couple of our players, so it was tough and we had to adjust,” Dean said. “We came in a little bit scared and intimidated and it kind of through us off our game. They had a press play we weren’t expecting.”

Ladynecks Mylia Dean, Baylee White, Addison Clinkscales, Emily Arnold, and Rebekah Harris also saw playing time against the Lady Bears.

“We really did well and played very aggressive,” Covington said. “The game was very physical and we had to work around that.”

According to Coach Joey Bohn, the Ladynecks struggled with physicality, but that’s not uncommon at this age and at the beginning of the season.

“They are working really hard to overcome it and I am proud of the progress we’ve made so far,” Bohn said. “I am very excited about the season. This is a talented group of girls who love to play.”

The Ladynecks will take a break next week but will resume play on Monday, November 27, against Harmony.
