The Eighth Grade Roughnecks won the district championship with 153 points last week. Beckville finished second with 122, and Waskom came in third scoring 115 points.
Ryland Fridell placed sixth in the 100 meter dash (12.91) and the 200 meter dash (27.21.) Sam Dusek placed first in the 200 meter dash (24.87). Rylie Redden placed fourth in the 400 meter dash (1:01.94.) Alberto Soto placed fifth in the 800 meter run (2:35.13) and fourth in the 1600 meter run (2:35.13.) Gunner Solis placed second in the 800 meter run (2:28.10) and third in the 1600 meter run (5:56.62.) Max Tramel placed sixth in the 1600 meter run (6:16.41.) Ben Jacyno placed fourth in the 2400 meter run (9:52.60). Nathan Green placed third in the 2400 meter run (9:50.90). Alex Robinson placed fifth in 110 meter hurdles (20.56) and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles (51.39).
“The long distance races were difficult, but I ran them because I’m really good at them,” Gunner Solis said. “The mile is my favorite.”
Brian Williams, Cayson Siegly, Gavin Bzdil, and Sam Dusek placed third in the 4×100 meter relay (50.03) and Brian Williams, Gavin Bzdil, Josh Covington, and Sam Duesk captured first in the 4×400 meter relay (4:00.53).
“I like doing the relays because it’s more of a team effort,” Siegly said. “All four teammates have to do their best and it pays off because the relays are a hard race to win.”
Brian Williams placed first in long jump (16-6) and fifth in triple jump (33-3). Gavin Bzdil placed second in long jump (16-5 ½ ) and third in high jump (4-10). Sam Dusek placed fifth in long jump (16-1) and third in triple jump (35-4 ½ ). JR Covington placed fourth in shot put (36-8 ¼ ) and first in discus (117-0). Alex Robinson placed sixth in high jump (4-6). Josh Covington placed second in pole vault (9-6). Colton Fears placed fourth in Pole Vault (9-0).
“While throwing I progressed a lot and got first in district and sat a new PR.” JR Covington said. “As a team we all improved and matured together. We had setbacks, but we came together with our great coaches and now we’re district champs two years in a row.”
